Your All-in-One Safety pack (World Sailing approved)
OPST Sea Survival, Offshore Safety and your internationally recognised RYA VHF/SRC license in one go.
In an emergency at sea, knowing what to do, to reach out for assistance and immediate action saves lives. To prepare skippers and crews to rough weather and problems at sea, we have combined all the knowledge of Sea Survival, Offshore Safety and XXXX in one.
The first day you will learn in a one-day classical course how to operate the VHF radio, to use the correct frequencies (channels) and distress, emergency & medical assistance procedures. We use real radio equipment for you to get confident and accustomed in using the various controls and DSC (Digital Selective Calling) functions. A VHF radio is an important piece of safety equipment onboard. The RYA Marine Radio Short Range Certificate (SRC) is the minimum qualification required to operate marine VHF radio equipment and is internationally recognised. At the end of the day, you will be assessed in the use of Marine VHF DSC radios. Candidates must be 16 years or older on the day of the exam. Your official VHF license has a lifetime validity.
The second and third day consists of a one day Sea Survival module and a one day Offshore Safety module. At the end you will have a good knowledge of the safety equipment carried on small boats and the seamanship techniques needed to survive at sea in heavy weather.
The certificates awarded conforms with the eligibility requirements of section 6.01/6.02 of the World Sailing Offshore Special Regulations (OSR) for category 0, 1, 2 offshore races, and category 3 for double handed sailors. Full details of the Special Regulations can be found in the World Sailing website.
We strongly recommend all sailors to obtain their training when joining our Race or Ocean experience. The training is mandatory for those enduring the Rolex Fastnet and Rolex Middle Sea Race (OSRcat2 races).
